The soft back of the upper arm is an area our own site lists for SculpSure, and in our practice it is treated with an applicator fitted over the back of each arm in one 25-minute cycle. The upper arms are not among the areas SculpSure is cleared for in the US and no published trial has treated them, and we say so plainly. For the arms we also provide fat freezing at our sister clinic, where the upper arm is a cleared area, and the clinician says at the consultation which fits. Every SculpSure treatment is led by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Sculpsure Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6HP, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does on the arms
The laser heats the fat layer at the back of the arm to the temperature at which fat cells break down, with contact cooling on the skin, and the body clears the cells over the following weeks. It does not tighten loose, hanging skin or build the triceps beneath; the clinician names the treatment at our sister clinics that does.
What the evidence covers
No clearance and no published trial names the upper arms, so we quote no figure for them; the abdomen and flank trials, the fat layer 11.5% and 13% thinner at twelve weeks, stand for the mechanism. The SculpSure or CoolSculpting page compares the two for an area where one is cleared and the other is not.
The session and after
The applicator fitted over the back of each arm, the cycle of 25 minutes, hot with cooling running throughout and the energy adjusted with you. Red and warm afterwards, then tenderness, swelling or a firm feeling for one to three weeks, with normal activities throughout. In our experience the result shows from about six weeks and is best at about twelve, when we photograph the area.
Who it suits
In our practice, an adult close to the weight they want with a soft layer at the back of the upper arms, a BMI of 30 or less, and the patience for a result that shows over weeks. Your clinician checks your suitability at the consultation. The full guide covers the rest.
