The fat on the inner side of the knees is not a cleared SculpSure area, and it has one independent study, which is more than the upper arms, bra fat or buttocks have. We treat the knees at the judgement of Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, say plainly what the one study found, and set the price in writing at a free consultation at Sculpsure Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6HP.
What the one study measured
In an independent study from Thailand published in 2022, nineteen women had one SculpSure session on the inner knees. At six months the knee circumference had fallen from 44.0 to 41.3 cm and the fat layer from 2.4 to 1.5 cm on ultrasound. Pain during the treatment averaged 6.1 out of 10, against 3.9 in the independent chin study, and people who gained weight did less well. There is no trial behind a clearance for the knees, and the areas cleared by the US FDA are the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs and under the chin.
What it does and does not do
SculpSure reduces the fat pad on the inner side of the knee by heating it through the skin. It does not tighten loose skin around the knee, which in our experience is often part of what people see there, and the doctor says at the consultation whether the problem is fat, skin or both. Because the knees are not a cleared area, in our practice the fitting of the applicators is planned with care, and the one study's pain score is worth knowing before you book.
The session and after
The applicators are fitted over the fat pad for a 25-minute cycle. It feels hot, with contact cooling running throughout; the energy can be adjusted. Red and warm afterwards, then tenderness, swelling or a firm feeling for one to three weeks, with normal activities throughout. The result shows from about six weeks and is best at about twelve; in our practice we photograph the area again then.
Who it suits
