SculpSure for a double chin in London

The fat under the chin, the submental area, is a cleared SculpSure area with two trials behind it and one independent study. A small mask applicator sits under the chin for a 25-minute cycle, up to two treatments, with normal activities straight away. What the studies measured

• 57 people (the trial behind the 2017 clearance): the fat layer 15.2% thinner at twelve weeks after up to two treatments; in that study most patients had two, six weeks apart. All 55 who answered were satisfied.
• 61 people (the trial behind the 2019 clearance, BMI up to 49): a measured thinning of 1.4 mm, with 53 of 58 satisfied. The record notes that the petite mask can also affect the appearance of lax tissue under the chin.
• 20 people, independent, Thailand (2022), one session: the fat layer fell from 0.51 cm to 0.46 cm at three months, a significant change, and was 0.48 cm at six months, no longer significant against the start. Pain averaged 3.9 out of 10, and people who gained weight did less well.

What it does and does not do

SculpSure reduces the fat pocket under the chin by a measured fraction; the record behind the clearance also notes an effect on the appearance of lax tissue there. It does not tighten a loose neck the way surgery does, and where the problem is skin rather than fat, a tightening treatment is the right conversation. The independent study's fading by six months is worth knowing before you book. In our experience a steady weight is the best way to keep the result, and in our practice a second treatment can follow the twelve-week review if you want more change.

The session and after

The mask is fitted under the chin and the cycle runs 25 minutes. It feels hot, with contact cooling running throughout, and pain averaged 3.9 out of 10 in the independent study. Red and warm afterwards, then tenderness, swelling or a firm feeling for one to three weeks, with normal activities throughout. The record behind the chin clearance also lists bruising, nodules, blisters, numbness and hair loss in the area, and states that all events except one were temporary and most were mild or moderate. The result shows from about six weeks and is best at about twelve, when the trials measured.
