The rolls across the lower back and below the shoulder blades are among the areas Cynosure names for SculpSure, and the back was cleared in the US in 2017 with the inner and outer thighs on the maker's data. The applicators are fitted over each roll on a belt, both sides in one 25-minute cycle, lying on your front, with normal activities straight away. What it does on the back
The laser heats the fat layer in the roll to the temperature at which fat cells break down, with contact cooling on the skin. The body clears the cells over the following weeks, so the roll reduces by a fraction of its fat layer. It does not tighten loose skin on the back and it is not weight loss; in our practice the back is often treated with the flanks in one plan.
What the evidence covers
The 2017 clearance for the back rests on the maker's trial in its FDA summary rather than a journal paper, and we say so. In it 55 people had the back treated once, and the fat layer was 10.6% thinner at twelve weeks on ultrasound, with 81% satisfied. The thighs and back page sets out the 2017 clearance's figures.
The session and after
The applicators fitted over each roll, the cycle of 25 minutes, hot with cooling running throughout and the energy adjusted with you. Red and warm afterwards, then tenderness, swelling or a firm feeling for one to three weeks, with normal activities throughout. The result shows from about six weeks and is best at about twelve, when we photograph the area in our practice. The side effects page has the other risks.
